Liposomal Glutathione Supplementation Mitigates Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis in the Liver and Spleen

چکیده

Background: Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) accounts for a fifth of all Mycobacterium (M. tb) infections worldwide. The rise multidrug resistance in M. tb alongside the hepatotoxicity associated with antibiotics presents challenges managing and treating (TB), thereby prompting need new therapeutic approaches. Administration liposomal glutathione (L-GSH) has previously been shown to lower oxidative stress, enhance granulomatous response, reduce burden lungs tb-infected mice. However, effects L-GSH supplementation during active EPTB liver spleen have yet be explored. Methods: In this study, we evaluated hepatic (GSH) malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, cytokine profiles untreated L-GSH-treated wild type (WT) Additionally, splenic burdens tissue pathologies were also assessed. Results: increased total levels reduced GSH. A decrease MDA, oxidized GSH, interleukin (IL)-6 was detected following treatment. Furthermore, observed increase interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α production IL-10 levels. survival significantly supplementation. treatment provided host-protective effect Conclusions: Overall, elevated forms GSH by decreasing enhancing immunosupportive cytokines, reducing immunosuppressive cytokines. These benefits highlight potential provide insight into novel interventions against infections.

Liposomal Glutathione Supplementation Restores TH1 Cytokine Response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis Infection in HIV-Infected Individuals

Cytokines are signaling biomolecules that serve as key regulators of our immune system. CD4(+) T-cells can be grouped into 2 major categories based on their cytokine profile: T-helper 1 (TH1) subset and T-helper 2 (TH2) subset. Protective immunity against HIV infection requires TH1-directed CD4 T-cell responses, mediated by cytokines, such as interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-12, interferon-γ (IFN-γ),...

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis

316 Tuberculosis can involve any organ system in the body. While pulmonary tuberculosis is the most common presentation, extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) is also an important clinical problem. The term EPTB has been used to describe isolated occurrence of of tuberculosis at body sites other than the lung. However, when an extrapulmonary focus is evident in a patient with pulmonary tuberculosi...

[Extrapulmonary tuberculosis].

Although the respiratory tract is the major site for tuberculous lesions, all organs can be affected. The authors review the clinical files of 25 patients admitted to our Department with lung and/or pleural tuberculous disease, confirmed by bacteriology or histopathology, who simultaneously suffered from tuberculosis in other organs. We included 20 men and 5 women, aged from 10 to 74 years (mea...

[Extrapulmonary tuberculosis].

Each year, there are more than eight million new cases of tuberculosis and 1.3 million deaths. There is a renewed interest in extrapulmonary forms of tuberculosis as its relative frequency increases. Among extrapulmonary organs, pleura and lymph nodes are the most common. Their diagnosis is often difficult and is based on clinical, radiological, bacteriological and histological findings. Extrap...

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis in Poland in the years

Introduction: The incidence of tuberculosis in Poland decreased from 128.5 in 100 000 in 1970 to 19.1 in 100 000 in 2010. In many countries, but not in Poland, according to the improvement of the epidemiological situation of tuberculosis (TB), the proportion of the extrapulmonary form of this disease is increasing. The aim of this study was to describe changes in extrapulmonary TB epidemiology ...
